Realistic Drink Moderation?!


Question: We all know that binge drinking is terrible for our health and that we should instead drink only a small amount a day, or nothing at all - but realistically, how do you drink?

I tend to drink ALOT at parties and spend alot of time in pubs with friends (I'm 21!). I find that alot of people, young and old are the same as me. I'd rather be a clever drinker, but it's just not the way I learned to drink!

Here's a great trick for a bar. In between beers, I drink a glass of water. It slows down the alcohol consumption, yet I always have a glass in hand. When I'm doing mixed drinks, I'll either drink a glass of water in between or a diet Coke.

It helps me maintain control. It's cheaper than all the alcohol, and it keeps me hydrated. Plus I run to the bath room so often that I can't drink as much beer either!!!

I also used to drink alot. Hopefully once your my age (30) you will not have the urge to binge drink all the time, as your body doesn't bounce back as quickly once you get older. One other trick that I would do to calm the drinking down is to throw bottled watter into the mix. so i wouldn't get soo messed up and the next day i wouldn't really be hangin'.

I dont drink much during the week but come Saturday and Sunday going out to the bars I dont stop til I drop.

I generally tend to stick to 1 or 2 glasses of wine in an evening. The weekends, I may drink a little more. It all depends on if we're celebrating something or if I just feel like drinking more.

There are nights I simply don't drink at all. Not because I'm trying to give my liver a break (which it does give it that), but because my schedule changes and I never know when I'm going to need to hop in the car and retrieve someone from some place. lol

Alternate non alcoholic drinks like tonic water and lime or grapefruit with cranberry and of course just water or soda. If you switch alcohol and non you will not get as trashed and really enjoy yourself more. Also don't forget to eat it helps slow the rate of alcohol absorption. Good Luck!

Having a glass of water or something else between each drink is a great idea. Also it is good to know that your body can only process a drink an hour- whether it is beer, wine, or hard alcohol.

honestly, Ive been a bartender for a long long time. i only drink a few times a year and in moderation. (Ive seen to much in my occupation)
