Which grain?!


Question: i plan on making my own whiskey i really dont know what different grains make for the best taste right now i know barley, corn, rye and wheat if anyone else has an idea please help

It all depends on what kind of whiskey you are interested in. If you are talking about a scotch whiskey, then it will be all malt. If you are talking Kentucky Bourbon, then it is a combination of corn, malt and rye.

As far as best taste, it will depend on what you like. Find a commercial spirit that you like then explore the heritage that has lead up to that spirit.

Well, considering if you want to make good whiskey, you have to ferment malted barley, then distill it a few times, then age it in barrels a few years so it is actually whiskey. Considering you don't have half a clue of what you're doing, I doubt you're going to want to invest on the equipment and time to do it right.

However, if it works out, call me up in a few years and we'll try out your first batch.

Making alcohol is easy, making good alcohol takes a lot of effort, time, and patience.
