Beer- When you brew your own beer or wine, does it stink up the room?!

Question: I'm about to start brewing my own beer and or wine, not that its a big deal but I'm wondering if it will make my home smelly and unpleasing to be in. Does anyone know?

I used to make my own wine in my loungeroom and unless I put my nose right up to the airlock I couldn't smell anything. I do love hearing the bubbles while I'm watching t.v. Very exciting. Depending on the type of yeast you use the smell will vary. Now that I have made a lot of wine I have moved out of the loungeroom but loving going to my 'brewing room' just for the smell! Beer is a stronger smell but still not unpleasant. Great hobby - Enjoy!

Not a "stink" but brewing definitely has a smell much like cooking or baking bread would.

With wine- no, not at all. Beer will smell stinky while you cook the ingredients, but the smell will fade once you have it in a container to ferment.

the only smell that comes out is the yeast fermeting
there is an air lock that lets air out but not in...

btw yeast smells... SWEET and tasty!

I always do all the boiling of my beer outside. While you are doing the boiling, your house will smell like a brewery. Not a bad smell, but it will definately change the way your house smells for a while. I let mine ferment in a dark, closed closet and it does smell like yeast in there while the co2 is coming out of the airlock.

I brew outdoors, so no it doesn't stink up the house. When I ferment, sometimes the airlocks will allow the CO2 to escape and I can smell the phenols in the air.
