Here are the key ingredients for you:

1) Vodka: ahould be distilled from grains such as wheat and rye with rye being the most common. Other grains can be used and potatoes and other vegetables as well but not commonly these days. Vodka is clear and white due to its distillation process and filtration. It is never aged in wood barrels, is not aged prior to bottling and does not age in the bottle.

Whiskey/Whisky: malted (that is sprouted live grains) barley. Other grains were used in Whisky production but barley became the dominant variety early on in history. In Scotch, peat (from marshlands near the distilleries) is added to the fuel of the fires that are used to heat the malted barley to impart a characteristic smoky flavor. The heating is done after the malting of the grains essentially killing the barley to stop it from growing further. Whisky is the Anglo-Scottish spelling, Whiskey is the Irish-American spelling.

Bourbon: Similar to Whiskey but there must be at least 51% corn with the malted barley. Rye whiskey is also made in the US whereby rye is another grain used in the mix.

Saki: Rice wine...the grain is of course rice.

Ouzo: actually very similar to vodka in its actual origins (that is its a simple grain based distillation to make the alcohol). The flavor comes from distilling with anise and sometimes also with star anise, cloves, cinnamon and corriander (all spices). The spices add nothing but ouzo's strong aniseed flavor.

Beer: lots of people get this wrong of half right. There are many different ways to make beer but it should come from a fermented malted grains. Barley is the most common but wheat, rice and corn are also used, often a particular beer will have a mixture of the grains. Hops are used later to impart the characteristic bitterness to most beers, some beers have no hops at all.

Schnapps: true schanpps comes from the distillation of various fruits (usually from the German region). That is to say the juices directly made from these fruits are fermented to make the schnapps. In the US, what is often called schnapps is actually a liqueur product. The difference is that another alcohol such as brandy, rum or vodka has the fruit soaked in it to give the flavor.

Hope this helps!!!
