Get a job at a restaurant as a server or bar back. Work your way up. Most bars will not hire someone without experience.

Do not waste your money on bartending school. Bar owners want people with great customer service skills and experience; not someone who has a certificate from a bartending school. A good drink dictionary will teach you the same stuff, anyway.

Also, find out what kind of certificate you need to serve alcohol in your state. Most states require an alcohol server's certificate or license. A small fee, a class and a test are all that's required to obtain this certification (you'll have to obtain one anyway if you plan on being a server).

The best way to do it is to become a server first; restaurants will hire servers without experience.

THERE ARE MANY BARTENDING SCHOOLS AROUND.....YOU MIGHT CHECK THEM OUT...I LEARNED BY VOLUNTEERING BARTENDIB=NG DUTIES AT FUNDRAISERS...TALKED TO OTHER BARTENDERS ANDS READ BOOKS..

In England the only think you need is; being a student or immigrant who doesn't mind to be underpaid but who really needs accommodation, because is included.

I agree with Tom K, but when I was a server they almost never turned servers into bartenders. I recommend starting as a bar back.

Usually just being a hot, young, outgoing chick helps. Get a book of drink recipes and learn a few of the most popular ones (martinis, cosmos, etc). And learn how to pour a draft beer. Don't waste money on bartending school.
