I think you might need to refine your question a bit.

There are a lot of different excellent alcoholic beverages at all different price scales and of all different varieties.

For example, a bottle of Louis XIII cognac takes about 100 years to actually create, and will sell for anywhere between $1500 - $2500 per 750mL (26oz) bottle, depending on if you can actually find one or not.

For champagnes, there are a lot of "vintage" champagnes which are considered excellent, but one of the more common ones that continue to be released each vintage would be Cristal, which can retail for anywhere between $100 to $400 a bottle, again depending on if you can find it.

For scotch whiskeys, there's a great bottle of Glenlivet from 1969 which retails for around $500-$1000 per bottle which is quite readily available; however there's a lot of older 'collectors edition' type bottles of scotch which can literally be priced into the 10s of thousands of dollars.

When you get into spirits that don't benefit from aging you can get much more price reasonable - for example, a great bottle of vodka is Raiin, which is distilled in the U.S. from completely organic ingredients and distilled 7 times. It can be had for $30-$50 a bottle. Likewise, there are excellent gins (such as Vincent Van Gogh or Hendricks) which are similarly priced.

Your best bet is to do some sampling as to what type of beverage alcohol you like best, and then pose the same question except a little more defined - are you looking for straight alcoholic beverage, a mixed drink made from one particular alcohol base, or something else?

A Purple Elastic Thunder F*#@

i say aged port off the top of my head

I can't say it's THE BEST because that's subjective, but my all-time favorite is a Bombay Sapphire gimlet. Mmm, delicious. A lot of people I know dislike gin for whatever reason, but whatever. I love it. :) It's gotta be Bombay Sapphire, though.

'Brasso' - poured/filtered thru a piece of dried bread !
Am not sure of the cost.

p.s. I see this lot around me are amateurs

For me it is Coffee liqueur after dinner. About $10 a 750ml bottle.

"WILD IRISH ROSE"

jack dans £19 bottle

double blacks, get u blind in no time....

The best drink is the drink you like best. The only way to find out which that is, is to try several. Be guided by how well you like any non-alcoholic ingredients in a mixed drink. For instance, if you know that you hate tomato juice then you are not going to like a Bloody Mary. Also be guided by your experiences. If you taste four different Scotches and hated all of them, the fifth one will probably not be to your liking either. Finally, there is not necessarily ONE best drink. You might enjoy a variety of them.

Wow, tough question and a great one for travelers...i'd have to give you two answers too because I can't choose just one!

Red Sangria-a favorite of mine in many areas of Europe, and i'm now finding GOOD sangrias at Italian restaurants on the east coast of the US as well, homemade with fresh fruits are by far the best though. If you're buying it out near me it's about 8 dollars/glass.

Mojitos-I had wonderful mojitos during my vacations to the Carribbean. If you have a nice white rum and fresh mint...you have to make one!, I've actually found a good recipe you can follow at home. These usually run between 7-10 dollars/glass depending where you are from. 10 dollars in a city 7 dollars in the suburbs. here's a good mojito recipe!
