Gluten free liquors?!

Question:

Gluten free liquors?

My friend suffers from Coeliac disease - so to make a long story short, I was wondering what spirits would be safe for her to drink. They must be gluten-free.

Please, if you aren't sure, don't reply. It's a lot like saying, "oh, you've got a milk allergy? I think ice cream is okay." Please, please only reply if you know for sure a certain brand is gluten-free. Links would be thoroughly appreciated! Thanks in advance guys. :)

Answers:
I have celiac's myself, and yes, you generally have to steer clear of ALL beers, except for a few specially made for us. However, the previous poster was wrong when he said gluten is systemic solely to wheat- it is found in wheat, rye, barley, semolina, smelt, triticale and a couple others. Distilled alcoholic beverages are gluten free. Distilled products do not
contain any harmful gluten peptides. Research indicates that the gluten peptide is too large to carry over in the distillation process. This leaves the resultant liquid gluten-free. Wines are gluten-free. Beers, ales, and lagers are made from gluten-containing grains and are not distilled, therefore they are not gluten-free.

Also, here's a list I found on another site:
Please note that ingredients in the products on this page are subject to change without notice. The products on this page were safe when last checked. It is up to you to verify that the product remains gluten-free by checking the ingredients yourself, or by contacting the manufacturer. All distilled alcohols are gluten-free.

Gluten is peculiar to wheat, so I'm sure if you steer clear of wheat beers she'll be fine. You really need to check with a doctor before you try anything in case the alcohol has any other effects on the disease. All alcohols are by products of yeast metabolism- yeast doesn't produce gluten, wheat does. All Beers except beers that are specifically called wheat beers are brewed with malted barley, specifically because it doesn't contain gluten, which clogs brewing equipment. Steer clear of the major US and Canadian brands of beer as they use various adjuncts in their brewing and you can't guarantee they didn't use malted wheat for part of the mash. Distilled liquors like gin, vodka and even whiskey are made from potatoes or corn and never come in contact with gluten. Wine likewise. You really should consult a doctor in case alcohol itself has any effect on the disease, though.

Check out new beer- called Red Bridge- NO wheat, it a made from Sorgum (spelling??). I have tried it and tastes a bit different, but good. Website below, it even mentions
Coeliac Disease- so you know I am not full of bologna.
