Owning my own bar but where to begin?!

Question:

Owning my own bar but where to begin?

I did see the other blokes post but didnt really answer my questions. I am currently travelling through the uk and working in bars. Getting to know the trade. Im a head barman here now so when i get home i wanna know where to begin on starting my own business one day. It is not something i want to rush, im happy for it to take 5-10 years. I was thinking start working in a bar back in aus, then get a job as a bar manager then run a bar through a franchise or something, then open my own bar. But that is just a rough sorta plan i come up with in the last 5 mins.i want to learn everything. I want to do bar management courses, i wanna learn about wine, cocktails, spirits, lagers i wanna know what univeristy courses if any i should do. I wanna run it properly. Suggestions would be great. On any of the above.Cheers

Here is a website to purchase software for owning a club/bar. I know here in the States we have to apply and buy a liquor license, insurance etc. We also have bartender schools so you can learn the tricks of the trade.
Anyhow good luck to you. Website listed below.

Since you're already working up front in the business you should have a good idea of the basic logistics involved in operating a bar... what drinks are popular, how much of such-and-such spirit or so-and-so wine to keep on hand to meet demand, etc.

The biggest hurdle to overcome involves dealing with the beaurocracy and the accounting. Many jurisdictions require applications for licenses to serve alcohol. You'll have to become familiar with the intricaces of this process. In the day to day business operations department, you'll have to overcome questions about whether your barman is skimming from you, are your maids working for more than tips, what really goes on in the loo, etc.

As you can see, being the head barman and being the boss of the head barman are very different positions. ;)

If I were you, I'd seek the honest advice of the proprietor of the establishment you now work at. Since you mentioned you were working abroad, s/he probably wouldn't feel threatened by you as a possible competitor and would likely be more honest and forthcoming in revealing their experience about the nuts and bolts of the business side of things.

I will list all you need

- A big variety of beer, liquor, and other achohol
- A few TV's
- A Pool table
- Cash Register (S)
- A Sign for the front of you bar
- A Kitchen if you wish to serve food
- A good bartender and good workers
- At least 10 bar stools
- At least 10 tables and chairs
- At least 3 Stalls in the Womens Restroom
- 3 Sinks in the womens restroom
- 3 Stalls in the mens restroom
- 3 Sinks for the mens restroom
- At least 6 Urinals in the mens restroom ( When a man drinks beer or any other acholic drink they tend to pee alot
- One machine that has Condoms, Advil
Hope this helps ! Good Luck !

what is your budget

Get good bartenders that have a loyal following. I've seen people follow good bartenders to crap joints jus cuz that's "their bartender."
