Beer making question?!

Question: At what point during the beermaking do you add the dry malt hops? I was making some for the first time (a syrup in a can) and all it said to do was boil and mix). Now after some research it says I need to add dry malt hops. Its been fermenting for a day...is it too late?

Most canned kits will come already hopped. All you need to do is add water, sugar, and yeast.

You'll find many different answers to the hops questions because you can add them at different times.

Most hops are added about half way though boiling and add a lot of the flavour. You then can add more or smellier (aromatic hops) right at the end of boiling or during the first few days of fermentation. Finally, you can add them after a few days of fermentation, and some recipes do.

The main reason they are added while boiling is to make sure they don't have any contaminants. So if you are adding them without boiling (like during fermentation) make sure you have sealed store bought ones.

But in your case. The kit should some with hops if you need them and it should say when on the instructions.

If you were supposed to do it during the boil and didn't, you can boil them in a pot of water for a few minutes or go to your local hobby beer/wine shop and get some hop pellets or extract and ask if you can add it during fermentation.

If the kit asked for hops and you didn't add them you are going to have nasty beer. If there is no mention in the instructions of it then they have already added it :)

Do it now!
