What types of red wine are sweet or very mild?
I'd like to switch from drinking white to red wine. However most of the reds I've tried are SO dry, or bitter I havent cared for them. Are there certain types I should be looking for???
Answers:
Try a Muscat wine.
Some of them can be sweet like a wine cooler. I consider those a good entry level wine. A very dry wine can turn you off from wine drinking all together. Start with a muscat and graduate from there.
Shiraz is a sweet wine...
Riunite Lambrusco is a fairly sweet red wine. The other red wines I've tried are all dry in comparison to white wine. Merlot is probably the most powerful, and Shiraz is probably the most mellow, but they're still not "sweet."
The Red Lambrusco is a nice wine that I personally enjoy with my girlfriend.
It can come dry or sweet, but fortunately, the label does come to your assistance:Secco means dry, while Amabile means sweet. So read carefully and if you're in doubt taste a bottle before buying several for your picnic.
good choice!
red wines have been proven to benifit heart health
dry reds are an acquired taste
consider starting with a beaujoulie (sp?)
young and sweet, fruity grapes
very easy to sip (or gulp)
i prefer heavier, smokey cabs
or spicey zins
but beaus are perfect for a spring picnic
Try a good Sangria.. The mix of red with fruit juice is quite refreshing
Try Citra Montepulciano D'Abruzzo. It's inexpensive, light, soft, not too dry, goes great with anything Italian, pasta, pizza, soft enough for chicken. It's a good way to start working your palate for reds.
As a responce to Sonu Ks assumpion that Shiraz is a sweet red wine.... No it isn't! Not even close.
If you want a something similar to a sweet red wine try port. A LBV (late bottled vintage) is a good and cheap choice. Try Taylors.
