What is beer?!
What is beer?
Answers:
any alcoholic beverage that uses a fermentation process and no distilling process. The traditional ingrediants for beer include water, barley, hops, and yeast. But today with many styles there are more different kinds of ingrediants. The malt is where all of the alcohol is, it is where sugar meets yeast and the yeast feasts and excreets alcohol and carbon dioxide. The sweet malt flavor is balanced by the bitter hops.
Elixir to life's enjoyment.

My favorite explanation is that beer is liquid bread. Basically, any culture that has domesticated crops for bread has also "discovered" beer. That's why it's been around for so long. It isn't that hard to make. Any water and grain mixture (called "malt") will ferment. If left on its own in in an uncontrolled environment, it will be wild yeast from the air that feast on the sugars in the grains. This beer doesn't taste very good, but it is probably a good representation of what the first beers tasted like. Yeast cultures have been developed over time and are prevented from mixing with the wild yeasts. When these are added to the malt, it is easier to control what the outcome is going to be. There are also factors that will effect the taste, like the temperature a certain yeast will begin fermentation and whether or not to add hops or other flavors, but the easy answer to your question is:
Beer is what comes when grain and water are allowed to ferment.
Now go out there and brew your own!
(By the way, I noticed some spiteful little monkey went and gave my last five answers 4 thumbs down. How'd he do it? I don't know, but I doubt it's a considence that one minute I've got nothing, and the next ALL 5 answers have exactly 4 thumbs down. Ha ha. What a baby!)
Hops n barley and a bunch of suds. My favorite drink. Beck's preferred. Like Tsing Tao and Japan beers. Not fav of darks but drink... Coor's lite whimpy daytime beer. Gypsy mode Bud which I hate, but in bottles only. Always well chilled. And of course in moderation. Hide the keys and sit by the water if u can.
