Does champagne ever go off?!

Question: Why I ask is that we were given a bottle by friends when my husband And I got married in September 2004.
As my husband doesn't drink (I do), we never found the occasion to open it.
But now my daughter got engaged recently and we are meeting the boyfriends parents, I was thinking of opening the bottle to toast the happy couple.....
The champagne in question is a brut, Sol Aime if that helps anyone, don't think it was an expensive one, just want to know if it keeps after a few years.

A bottle of Champagne bought in 2004 should be very drinkable now.

Champagne can keep for many years, but -- like all wine -- it will not keep for ever. However there should be no problem with keeping it 10 years.

Enjoy, and congratulations!

It should be fine.
Vintage champagnes (though I'm assuming yours isn't) should only be opened after 8 years, at least. The principle is the same with non-vintage, but less important.
Your Champagne should by now have reached an interesting level of maturity, making it smoother than when it was first bottled. Enjoy.

Yes it does if you don't store it right. It needs to be laid flat and turned. I's something to do with the cork. You might be ok as you've only had it 4 years.

It shouldnt do as you have not opened it.
Happy toasting

Unfortunately Champagne does go off after time unless it is a vintage bottle wich will be stated if so. Having said this its worth a try, I had the same problem... Id had a bottle of laurent perrier rose (brut) for 3 years stored in completely the wrong conditions but it tasted beautifull and nobody knew the difference. I hope you discover the same thing with yours. Good Luck x

It should be ok especially since it's a brut because that means it has less sugars than ordinary champers, but a lot depends on under what conditions it's been kept and the state or the cork.

If I were you, I'd buy a back-up bottle just in case and I'd be honest and warn the others about the possibility of it being undrinkable. Everybody will understand.

The Older the Better

Cheers

Unless its vintage, it probably has gone off. But its worth a try! One hour in the fridge before serving. Have a backup bottle in case.

champagne in a cellar will last up to 4+ years but if you keep it in a dark cool place it will last up to 2 years but i store mine in the fridge and drink it within 1 year.
