i was thinking of running a convenient store and fixing it up and then trying to get my liquor license in it

Most cities require a clean establishment with approved health rating, and a clean police record with no liquor or drug violations for at least three years.
There is also a per capita limit on the number of licenses allowed in each precinct.
The zoning must allow liquor and different zone ratings aloow different substances. i.e. beer only; beer and wine only; beer, wine and liquor.
Some states, like Kentucky allow private individuals to hold inactive licenses to sell to the highest bidder so if your state, Illinois works this way, you might be required to come up with a large sum just to get the license.
The best way to learn what your area requires is to check with your local alcoholic beverage control board and get a license requirement manual.

liquor license not difficult, either sticker price will have to be high and you will end up not charging tax at the front desk or you will have low sticker and charge tax at the desk. no room for wholesale or another Binny's and such in Chicago. Neighborhood liquor stores carry items that most wholesalers don't.
