Hawaiian fruit crimson in color?!

Question:

Hawaiian fruit crimson in color?

This fruit has spiny outside and is crimson in color. I thought is was called a rubela (not sure of the spelling). You cut it open and eat the inside which is like a large grape. Anyone know what this is called and the correct spelling. I got hooked in Hawaii on this fruit and want to locate it here in Texas.

Answers:
I'm not sure if this is right but I'm pretty sure this hawaiian fruit you like so much is called rambutan. The word "rambut" in the fruit name 'rambutan' is Malay for 'hairy,' and this refers to the spiky rind. This luscious fruit is slightly larger than a lychee, about thesize of an apricot, and has sweet, translucent flesh. You can buy them at The H. E. Butt Grocery Co., based in San Antonio, Texas. At the H-E-B in Houston's Alief section, live tilapia and catfish swim in a tank in the seafood department, and fresh lemongrass and rambutan are stacked in the produce aisle ― all favorites of Alief's large Asian community. Hope this helps! and enjoy your fruit!

I am born and raised in Hawaii also I still live in Hawaii. By your description I'm not sure what exact fruit you are talking about. If possible could you give a more detailed description of this fruit then possibly then I could help you a little better.

LYCHEE- It is like a white grape on the inside, but more like a sugary sweet.
