A question for serious cognac drinkers?!

Question: OK, so I tried cognac for the first time at a relative's house last week and I loved it. It was a birthday party so his wife brought out a tray of shot glasses filled with cognac so I don't know what brand it was and all he said about it was it's aged about 20 years. So I did some research online and found out XO "Extra Old" is the best grade for Cognac and the average price for a 750 ml bottle is between $110 and $130. So my question is from these 4 brands which one do you prefer based on personal experience. Camus, Courvoisier, Hennessy, Remy Martin. Please give me your opinion only if you've drank XO grade cognac. I also noticed some of these brands have these super premium-level cognacs aged like 50 plus years and cost anywhere between $300 to $2000 a bottle and I'm not willing to spend anything over $150. Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice.

okay cognac should not be in shot glasses - especially a fine drink like a XO - it needs to be in a siffer (or however you spell it) so you can hold twirl it in your palm smell the aroma and savor every sip
here is my ranking
1. Remy Martin they make a wonderful - vsop too
2.Courvoisier
3. Hennesy
Almost any Xo is a fine liquor but these are my personal fav's rember you should never add any more than 1 or 2 cubes of ice or get it chilled if you can

Hi,

my personal favorite "every day" spirit of this type is Presidente' from mexico... usually a good buy and -smooth-.

in France I usually order Armagnac instead of Cognac... by law it's older (standard grades at least)... but it's not very common in the US but there are a few in common circulation.

there really is no limit on how much you can spend on fancy brandy... at Fauchon (place Madeline, Paris) you can buy Fauchon branded cognac or armagnac from just about any year you can afford (and a whole lot you can't afford)...

people buy them for special occasions/gifts (anniversary, birthday, etc)

I like the Courvoisier XO. It goes down smooth and you don't need to chase it down with anything else. It's a real man's drink that will impress anybody who enjoys high end alcohol.
