OK, in all seriousness though, WHY is Tonic Water so often bashed?!

Question: Some say it's overloaded with sugar, others
complain of its bitterness...

It's been great for me for years when mixed right.
I can see how some ultra-purists may wish to
drink their liquor straight, which is great to be sure,
but, Tonic can hit the spot at times like none
other with a good pour of Gin or Vodka.

What am I missing?

I haven't heard of anyone bashing tonic...

I usually drink gin with less-sweet mixers, but somethimes a Tanqueray & tonic w/ fresh lime hits the spot! Not everyone is going to like the same types of beverages...that's why there are drinks like the Martini, Manhattan, etc., and also drinks like the Cosmopolitan, Amaretto Sour, etc.

Did you know that tonic water will glow under black light?? Pretty cool... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Tonic...

Tonic water started out as a medicine because of the quinine and gin was added to mask the flavor of the quinine...but I'm with you I love gin and tonic..especially tanguray 10

I think tonic is amazing.
Hands down Grey Goose Tonic is my favorite drink with a slice of lime of course.

I think because a lot of bars have bad/poorly mixed tonic water.

I didn't know tonic was getting hated on, not popular but I don't know anybody who openly loathes it. Bitters and tonic for an upset stomach or a gin and tonic for an upset brain has always done right by me. Lots of gin haters though...

I am a fan of tonic, as long as it is mixed with gin or vodka and a lime widge.
