A Pinch and a Punch for the first day of the month?!
Answers: Where and when did this tradition first originate?
God knows. We said white rabbits in Yorkshire and I don't know why either!Apparently the pinch and punch is to get rid of witches.(?!) You throw a pinch of salt at them and then punch them in the face. Why on the first of the month is beyond me? Did witches only come at the beginning of the month so a pinch of salt would get rid of them til next month?!
PS just looked up white rabbit and in Somerset white rabbits were thought to be witches. Still don't see why witches hang around on the first of the month though!
