Charles Shaw wine...?!
Charles Shaw wine...?
Charles Shaw wine, also known as 2 buck chuck. . .
They sell it at Trader Joe's. .
I have seen many people buying this wine. Has anyone tried it? Is it good? Is it nasty? Thanks for your opinions.
Answers:
2 Buck Chuck is actually pretty good. I usually serve it when my husband and I are having a big party. It saves money and I have never gotten any complaints about the wine, even from my WINE SNOB friends.
You can even use Charles Shaw in your cooking. I used the Merlot for Easter to simmer a roast and yesterday I used the Shiraz to make Strawberries Sabayon for dessert.
Try it yourself. You will not be disappointed.
Personally, I dont like the taste.... and when I was given a 2002 as a gift, I used it for cooking, and even then the flavor is just not something I enjoy.
I would get an Arnold Palmer or Rutherford Ranch(both about $15). For $20 you can get a Sterling Cabernet.... There are some good '2 buck chucks' out there as well, I have had a few that are surprising. At the price its worth a try for you, and I would keep looking as well
It is the best $2 wine you will find. Or $3, or $4 wine, for that matter.
Wine is a funny thing, and the people that answer your question cannot even agree if it is a good wine or not.
But, for two bucks, go ahead and give it a try. It is not a GREAT wine, but it is a NOT BAD wine. And for two bucks, what the hell, right?
Cheers!
When we first tried the Merlot, it wasn't 'bad' or nasty, but we'd had better wines in the past. After going through a few cases over the course of a several months, we finally relagated it to the cooking-wine shelf.
Some other Y!Answerer (in another question) has suggested that 2BC Sauvignon Blanc is pretty good. I'm going to try it, soon to see if they were right.

Well it certainly all depends on the tastes of who you're asking. I think for a $3.49 bottle of wine, it is excellent. You could do a lot worse. But it really doesn't compare to a higher quality wine.
Also, since there is no punt at the bottom to collect sediment, it's not a wine to be collected or saved...you should drink it shortly after you purchase it.
Their merlot is okay.
Their shiraz (beaujolais nouveau) is great - my friend buys it by the case & I really like it too.

Didn't like their cabernet - too tannic.
Haven't tried their white wines.
I actually think it's pretty good. You can buy a whole case for about $25! Great for parties.
