Go from lightest to darkest, and lightest to heaviest. Lager, Fruit beers, red, IPA, Amber, best brown, porter, stout, barley wine, unconsciousness, in that order.

A lot of beer fest offer what is called a sampler or taster. It is basically a set of 6-10 beers in 3 oz glasses or cups. Just try each one until you find what you like. It usually runs anywhere from 6-15 dollars

Don't swallow the beer, do like they do at wine tasting. Spit it out, otherwise you'll be too drunk to taste anything after a short period
In my experience I have found that drinking the beer is the best strategy for tasting it. But you should experiment in order to find out what works for you. Good luck!
Start with lighter beers, because darker beers usually have more taste and will drown out the taste of the lighter beers if you start with the darker ones.
well,darling i wish i could join you! but seriously,there are many different types of beer and some have a higher alcohol content, so be careful. I've been to several festivals and have found that you can sample your way into a stupor !! so, tastes a little till you find a type you like,enjoy a few and EAT.
Small samples, be sure to eat, and have a designated driver.
Drink as much as you can in as little time as possible. Try them all!!!
