Hey i live in Australia, they are called booze buses. They all smell like vomit unfortunately. Taxi is a better option if you don't want to be sick also :):)

That sounds awesome...but I don't see how that'd work out well w/the massive amount of bars and the massive amount of people in those bars. Here in the states there is a bar on every corner w/a capacity of 200 people.

IMO, both the bars and the people have responsibilities. I worked at a bar for 3 years in college...I've seen my share of drunk people - most of them are complete idiots. We do our best to take care of them, b/c obviously they can't take care of themselves. We will our regulars rides home in cabs if they're too drunk. We couldn't do that for everyone, or pay for a bus to drive 200 people home...that just wouldn't be practical (money wise).

As a customer, you could easily arrange to have a taxi pick you up at a certain time from the bar. We would gladly call a cab company for you...and encourage it sometimes, but we can't pay for everyone.

Also...here in TX it is illegal to be intoxicated in a bar, allow an intoxicated person into the bar, or to serve an intoxicated person. If we provided those rides, we would be encouraging those people to get drunk in public.

Response to your details: In a smaller town...sure...but I live in a large city (San Antonio for 6 years, Austin presently). That'd be a ridiculous amount of buses and trollies on the road - a great cause, but just too darn expensive. If the customers were willing to sit on a bus for anywhere around 1-2 hours while the bus made it's rounds and were willing to pay for it, then it might work.

Like I said, good idea...but just not practical in most areas. IMO, if you want to get wasted off your you-know-what you should stay at home and drink w/friends or go to a bar with a designated driver. Besides, it's cheaper to make your own drinks. $15 for a martini at a bar...ehhhhhh.

If your response to that is "but we want to be social and meet new people!" my response is that it's no good meeting people you can't remember the next day b/c you were too drunk. I want to meet people when they're sober and themselves...not drunk and slobbering.
Be responsible!

I think it is a great idea, but the US towns are so big, it can take an hour to get anywhere.

you could try starting that company. here one thing they have is like a taxi service, except they drive you home in your car, while another driver follows you in their car.

good idea, but if their drunk, they won't know
when to get off.
plus the bartender must
not serve his clients when he knows they had enough.
because if they got hurt driving home the parents, wife or children can sue the bar.
