Single malt scotch for birthday gift? suggestions?!

Question:

Single malt scotch for birthday gift? suggestions?

Answers:
Single malts vary quite a bit. It is a lot of personal tastes.

Balvenie is a good mid range that can cover a number of tastes. The Double Wood has a nice finish.

As it is a gift, I would say at least 12 year old, but 18 is better.

Glenlivet or Glenfiddich are good 'stand by' single malts. I only say it this way as it is a gift.

Glenlivet is good, but that's just my personal preference...

Depends a lot on how much you want to spend. Glenmorangie do some "wood" finishes, Port, Sherry, Madeira and Burgandy, for something a litttle different. Balvennie is good and do Single cask, Doublewood, Port wood etc. More expensive, Glenfarclas 30 yearold is excellent. Islay malt has a completely diiferent tastye to those and is reasonably priced. With over 300 malts on the market choice is difficult. One solution (tried by my kids) is to buy a selection of 6 or 12 miniatures of different malts to let the recipient enjoy different ones then buy themselves a bottle of their preference.

Ablerlour is generally good for most single malt scotch drinkers and is reasonable in price >$40

Oban
Talisker
Glenlivet

These are all good. Any 12 year old single malt will defiantly say Happy Birthday. I've been into highland malts lately.

Glenlevit can be pricy ..... there is a couple others that are less - Speyburn & Glinfidich
