Well I LOVE red wine... I'm the same as you- I don't want it too sweet and not dry either. Try these: (and write out the list to take with you when shopping for them):

1. Blackstone Merlot
2. Yellowtail Shiraz
3. Yellowtail Merlot or pretty much any wine by Yellowtail
4. Kenwood Yalupa

Chilean Wines (imported from Chile):

5. Concha Y Toro Xplorador Merlot
6. Concha Y Toro Xplorador Cabernet Sauvignon
7. Concha Y Toro Xplorador CARMENERE (This one is similar to the Merlot & Cabernet Sauvignon of this brand but it is THE BEST and my favorite! Also, this particular one is a little harder to find. I usually find it at an HEB grocery store or a few certain Specs liquor stores. The people working there can help you find it.)

**All wines listed above are between $7 and $15 depending on where you go. Unless you try them at a restaurant- in that case, you'll pay about $8 per glass.

Try a lambruska (sp?). It's a very soft red. My favorite!!

try Luna De Luna the blue bottle not too sweet and not too dry. the yellow a little dry but also very good.

Merlot and Red Chardonnay are good with meat and pasta because they have a fruity and floral aroma. soft, and not too strong.

Blackstone - reisling
Sutter Home - muscato (cheap and satisfying)
Pine Ridge - chenin blanc
Rodney Strongs Charlottes - sauvignon blanc

For red wine I would try a merlot or a chiraz, both are more fruity type wines, but they're not dessert wines so they shouldn't be too sweet. I would recommend Rosemount Shiraz.

For whites, my boyfriend really likes reislings. They are a little on the sweet side, but again not too sweet. He likes Chateau St. Michelle Reisling.

Hope that helps!
