Barrique is a small wooden barrel.

It is a name used in Bordeaux (a major quality wine area in France) for the barrel they use there which contains 225 litres (59 gallons).

Different wine areas traditionally use their own barrel sizes, with their own names such as 228litres in Burgundy, known as a 'piece', and Chablis 132L known as a 'feuillete'

New world winemakers can choose themselves which size barrel to use; those that call then barriques are usually indicating they are using Bordeaux size (225L) barrels.

A barrique is the probably the barrel size most commonly used by wineries around the world, and gives a good wood to wine ratio.

im not sure

The barrique is a wooden barrel and it helps with fermintation of wine

Hi Deja Vu,
Its a German wine unusual as it is a red wine of which they are
really not known for, fermented in wooden barriques (barrel's)
Try the classic Rheinhessen Weingut Neef-Emmich 2005 it's
priced around £11.00/12.00 a bottle.
If you like red you must give it a try ...... its good
