Well, as has been said earlier, vodka is the best spirit if you want as much alcohol as possible with as few calories as possible. Vodka is basically just ethanol and water.

Gin is good as well; it's also just ethanol and water, but with the addition of herbal flavors. The erbs aren't steeped in the gin; the gin vapors are passed through what's called a 'gin head' on the still, so little or no calories from the herbs & flavoring winds up in the spirit.

Gin & Soda (skip tonic, it has sugar) and citrus/lemon vodka & soda are both good, as is vodka & diet coke.

Light beers might be misleading - the contain fewer calories but also less alcohol. Here a chart of beer calories: http://www.realbeer.com/edu/health/calor...

Steel Reserve is fairly high alcohol, and has a reasonable number of calories. It's not great, but not bad considering the other beers in it's price range.

For wine, try a fortified wine like port or sherry. They have extra alcohol added. This started for shipping - before refrigeration the wine would be shipped with extra alcohol and then be cut with water for serving. Some people developed a taste for the undiluted wine, and it's still made today.

umm vodka is the best, less calories and less congeners to avoid the hangover (as long as you don't mix it with carbonated drinks)

Beer has alot of calories, one pint is equal to a whole block of chocolate. Wine, especially red, has alot of congeners which won't help with the hangover. Maybe try white wine if its a choice between that and beer

Edit: Randy do you actually know anything about alcohol or are you just saying that because you can? I only ask because your statement about not being able to recommend alcohol in any quantity due to medical reasons is blatantly false. There is plenty of medical evidence to suggest that drinking in moderation has more health benefits than negatives, for example its been shown that ppl who abstain completely are more likely to die prematurely of heart conditions than ppl who drink moderately..

WATER!!!!!!!!!!!

Water.

This is kinda like someone saying, "I want to lose weight but I like to eat cakes"... well, cutting the cakes will certainly help a lot more than anything else. Liquid calories go down really quickly, whether alcohol or sodas; if you're serious about losing weight, then cut down or stop and drink water instead.

If you'd rather drink, then cut way back on what you eat and get a lot of exercise and hope that that's enough to offset your drinking.

If you'd rather drink than do either, then, that's your choice.

Organic wine (no sulfates) , it's not exactly low calorie, but it has more health benefits and it will actually help you burn fat. Michelob ultra is the lowest calorie beer. Remember when trying to lose weight, it's less about calorie intake, and more about the type of food you eat. Before I got married I needed to lose weight and went on the abs diet plan and lost 20 pounds in six weeks, I also like to drink and this plan allowed for that. It's been a year now and I still am eating pretty healthy, but the plan is flexible enough that I can "cheat" a few times a week.

there used to be a diet called the drinking mans diet, basicaly atkins for drinkers, pushed hard drinks with mixers like water...

google it maybe?

It's amazing how your choice of drink really effects your diet. Even right on down to drinking a soda. I bet you can really lose weight just by cutting out your drinking habits alone. You would be amazed.

I can't recommend alcoholic beverages in any quantity, for many medical reasons, and then for weight gaining issues as well. But, if you can't get past that, which is a regret for me, then just start learning to love how to sweat too. You'll lose weight, but the calories, and less than prime health, will still be with you. God Bless you.

Here are the calories for beer and a bit of additional info as far as I could find. As far as getting a hangover, drink in modulation and sleep it off...

miler light and mich ultra have the least calories and carbs

There is only one way to lose weight, consistently burn more calories than you consume. Alcohol generates what are called empty calories as it is metabolized. In essence, you are eating the equivalent of pure sugar. Distilled spirits have the fewest additional calories over the base amount you get from metabolizing the alcohol. Beer and ale have more in additional calories from the materials used to brew the beer. Beer is more fattening than distilled spirits because for a given amount of alcohol, to get the same blood alcohol level, you have to drink about 4 times (or more) the volume in beer because of the lower alcohol content, which means all those additional calories from the brewing materials. So, to get the most bang for the buck, the greatest amount of blood alcohol level and least additional calories, any neutral distilled spirits will do, such as unflavored straight vodka.

You may prefer beer and wine, but you oughta learn to appreciate the merits of good vodka.
