It tastes mildly of vanilla.

A good way to make vanilla sugar is stick four or five complete vanilla beans into a sealable jar full of white sugar, and let them sit for a few months.

Remember, what most people think of as "vanilla flavored" is actually vanilla extract, which is much, much stronger than the natural bean, as it is concentrated during the extraction process.
