What do you serve in a decanter and why?!

Question:

What do you serve in a decanter and why?

Answers:
alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages are serve
eg- wines, juices and sparkling water .

Usually you decant red wine because it needs to breathe to acheive its true depth of flavor.

Well most decanter's have a top most use to put there liquor's of any kind into the decanter's after getting them home for mainly looks. Back years ago it was more of the up-scale homes that did this more fancier looking sitting on the bar instead of a liquor bottle sitting there they had Chrystal decanters or blown glass. I still have two of them made in the 50's.

One reason for decanting wine, especially fortified wines like port, or an old red wine, was to ensure that any sediment at the bottom of the bottle did not go into the glass.

It used to be done with a candle behind the bottle to enable the pourer to see the clear wine and the sediment. Pouring from the decanter into a glass was also done carefully near the end to ensure any sediment which had escaped into the decanter did not make it to the glass. When I occasionally decant red wine, instead of a candle and a steady hand, I use a funnel and a coffee filter. Works a treat, as all the wine including sediment can be poured out of the bottle. You'll be surprised at the muck left in the filter!

Mainly wine, both red and white are serve in decanter especially red .
There are two main reasons.
1. Aged wine have some crystallised things settled at the bottom of the bottle that is not palatable to drink. To separate these sediments, the wine is carefully poured in to the decanter without shaking the bottle. To help this process a lit candle is placed behind the bottle to make the bottle transparent and to watch the movement of the sediments
2. Pouring red wine in to decanter helps the wine to breath i.e. get contact with air that helps to reveille maximum aroma.

Other than that fruit juice, squash, lemonades, soda etc. also served in decanter

The reason for serving soda in decanter is the lean neck of the decanter helps to reduce rapid escape of gas

Red wine.
1. To let the wine "breathe".
2. To separate the sendiments.
