You don't want to try smashing them. I hold a pack with my thumb and middle finger and throw them down to my other out-turned wrist 6-10 times. The trick is to not hold on hard to the pack as it hits your wrist.
I think this is how it works, it's been a year since I've smoked.
If you can not spell cigarettes you must not be old enough to smoke them much less PACK them......
