Why don't alcohol products have to list calories and/or nutrition facts?!

Question:

Why don't alcohol products have to list calories and/or nutrition facts?

Answers:
It's basically caused by what you could call a demarkation or competence dispute between the FDA and the US Treasury, the latter controlling and regulating alcohol. I've listed an article in 'sources' which sets out the broad outline of some of the why-s and wherefores for you.

Not a food

because it would make people buy it less. lol.

because you are too drunk to care

I guess it's because it's not considered a food, but I think they should have nutritional info at least on beer.

Most whiskeys run about 60-80 calories per jigger 1 1/2 oz. Obviously there are no fat calories in most liquor like vodka, gin, etc...I'm not sure there is any other nutritional info that would be necessary. At least it tells you how much alcohol is in it.

Food and drinks are governed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Alcohol is governed by a different agency. Only foods/drinks that fall under the purview of the FDA need to carry this information.
