Bartending help...9oz glass+ice+1.5oz liquor+mix=okay drink?!

Question:

Bartending help...9oz glass+ice+1.5oz liquor+mix=okay drink?

We have to serve our own alcohol at our wedding reception. If we used a 9 ounce glass, filled with ice, put in 1 1/2 shots of liquor, and added mix, do you think that would be an okay strength drink? Thanks.

Answers:
If you are serving yourself at your own wedding im guesing you are running short on funds but still want to have a good time.

If you are using a 9 oz. glass and adding 1.5 oz liquor to it the drinks will tast strong. If you want to save money but still make your guests happy my advice to you is to lower your shot to an oz. because your glass is smaller then the average(12 oz.) but still using the same amount of liquor. It is going to taste stronger. So if you cut it down to one oz per 9 oz glass it will tast the same as a normal drink. Just make sure you pack it with ice. Doing this will save you liquor by 33%. which means tha tyou can extend that bottle or bottles. Also depending on what you plan on serving i would recomend going with a higher proof. Instead of serving 80 proof house rum at $10 a fith. you can get 151 house rum at 14 a fith. this will allow your guests to get buzzed and they will still be able to taste the alcohol. You will still have those people asking for more but since it wont be the majority you should be able to save yourself some money. Good luck and Congrats.

I think that would be plenty strong!! and, seeing that you are serving yourself...then, should someone complain...it's ok to add more right?? or you could always hit a couple bars or test it at home and try for yourself!!

You don't need 1 1/2 shots of liquor. One full size shot is sufficient in a 9 ounce glass. Do use a shot glass. You don't want to burn your drinks or make them too weak either. Nine ounces is a good size and when you fill with ice, that takes a lot of space, so stick with a single shot.

That's fine, for example, you could make the Lime Fuzz by taking Lime Bacardi 1.5oz and filling the rest with lemon/lime soda over ice.

If you want to make it have a little more of a kick, make a drink with 100 proof liquor, like Stoli or Smirnoff.

That's a perfectly acceptable ratio. Using a jigger can help with the proportions. One shot = 1 1/2 oz which is the larger cone aka the jigger while the smaller cone is 1oz aka the pony. I would recommend either acquiring some highball glasses for weaker drinks or 86'ing such drinks as Long Island Iced Tea's, Margaritas, and other such drinks that use a combination of alcohols thus requiring larger glasses.
