I want to buy a wine making kit - suggestions?!

Question:

I want to buy a wine making kit - suggestions?

Answers:
I can't suggest a specific kit, but here's some advice: If you're paying more than $75, you're getting ripped off.

* A 5 gallon glass carboy is around $25 with an S-type airlock.

* Pectic enzyme, campden tablets, acid blends and yeast nutrient will all come out to be about $15 altogether (big quantities, too). I'm not even sure if kits come with most of these.

* Depending on what you're making, you'll need some specific things like grapes, strawberries, grain, wood chips, etc. These are cheap at your regular supermarket, feed store or whatever.

* Sanitizing agents are probably already in your house. Bleach, a dish washer, etc are enough..

* Books and guides are available free online.

Having an extra carboy is optional but HIGHLY recommended. As more recipes call for a 2nd fermentation.

yeah get in your car
go to the store and buy your favorite
head back open enjoy

Your local wine/beer supply shop should have kits. If you want to make GOOD wine from scratch use grapes from your local vineyard and follow instructions found below,

Look around for home brew stores in you area and on line. First, though, research what the basic supplies and equipment you need and the cost individually. Just do a little comparison after that. There are lots of recipes, advice and groups to join on the net, try searching in Yahoo Groups.
Most home brew outfits and stores make up their own kits and some are very good and some are a rip off. Research what you need first, takes some time but will save you some cash and disappointment in the long run.

...the best part, after you make one batch, you still have the equipment, so all you need are new ingredients.
