What wine compliments baby back ribs the best?!
What wine compliments baby back ribs the best?
Can someone please suggest a specific brand? Also if the bottle isn't too pricey (say $20 or under that would be great!) Thank you so much!

First of all, don't waste your money on Arbor Mist, or White Zinfandel those aren't really wines. More like kool-aid with alcohol. A merlot may be a good choice but a merlot may be lost in the smokeyness of babyback ribs. You need a wine that can stand up to the sweet bbq sauce and the smokeyness of the food. I would suggest a Pinotage. Its a South African grape that not a lot of people know about. The wine itself has a slight hint of smoke that would go great with the ribs. It may be hard to find but most stores should carry it. They are all around 10$-20$ for some pretty decent ones. The one I have had quite a bit is Fairview Pinotage Paarl. Its around 15$ and is quite nice
a good red wine
Ripple...........sorry, I couldn't resist
I would do a Arbor Mist Merlot
2004 Clos du Bois Merlot.. Excellent Red for about 20 bucks.
I would have to say a sweet WHITE wine
Good Heavens, a gourmet cannibal?! What has the world come to?
Coppola Merlot is nice.
You mean "complements."
And, really, beer would be better, if you're going for an alcoholic beverage.
If you have to drink wine, try a nice Merlot - most good brands won't set you back more than $20 a bottle, and many fall into the $10-$15 range.
Or Chianti Classico Reserva, or a red port - such as Sandemann's brand of "table" port, or Warre's Warrior Porto (I like Warre's better than Six Grapes, another popular brand of port).
If you don't like reds, get Beringer white zinfandel.
Otherwise, just get a big ol' pitcher of sweet tea - that's about a gallon of tea with about 2 cups of sugar in it. No kidding. Lemon slices on the side.
arbor mist even though i hate drinking alcohol with food. also margaritas are great
Sangiovese. There are some really highly rated ones for $10-$15 a bottle. Check around. I prefer Italian wines when it comes to Sangiovese, but there are some California wineries that make good ones, too. This is a good table wine and doesn't overwhelm the ribs.
I saw someone recommended a Coppola Merlot. See if you can find the red that's simply called, "Coppola Red." If the folks you are eating with only like white, there's a version aptly named, "Coppola White," and that could do the trick as well.
A full red.
Blackstone - Cabernet sauvignon
Steven Vincent Crimson (a sweet, full bodied blended red)
Ménage à Trois (Sounds funny but it is a very good blended wine, Merlot/Cab Sauvignon/Cab Franc)
An Austrailian Shiraz always goes great with anything smoky or grilled.
For a basic shiraz, Black Swan is available just about anywhere. Otherwise, Tintara is my favorite.
One of the best wines I've ever had w/ red meat is Chimney Rock Cabernet. It's got a great "smoke" flavor that I'd imagine would be great w/ ribs as well... the cost would however be closer to $60 a bottle so you may want to look @ other cabernets from this region....
Forget the wine. Get a nice cold beer. Save the wine for something nicer, like a steak or salmon or something.
