Alcohol is made from grains!. Clearly there are many types of alcohol!. some are made from corn or potatoes!. Some are made from grapes - wine or cognac or champagne!. Some are made from barley - bear!. Are you asking how to make RAW alcohol from the basic - cheapest source!? Then you will want to look at fermenting and distilling either corn or potatoes!. The purest/strongest alcohol on the market used to be "Everclear" and it was something like 190 proof; which is 95% pure alcohol!.
Ethanol is the chemical name of the type of alcohol you can drink!. This is currently being produced to fuel vehicles as well! Do NOT get this mixed up with Methanol, which can kill you!. See more about ethanol here:

It is actually impossible to make pure alcohol in a permanent sense!. Alcohol has an azeotropic relationship with water!. Unless it is made and maintained in an anhydrous environment, it will always have a few percent water in it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
