Is there any alcohol in sugar alcohol or it is just a name ...?!

Question:

Is there any alcohol in sugar alcohol or it is just a name ...?

sugar alcohol is mostly used in food like gum

Answers:
Sugar alcohols are called that because of their chemical composition. They are in the the alcohol classification group, the members of which are technically defined as "any organic compound in which a hydroxyl group (-OH) is bound to a carbon atom of an alkyl or substituted alkyl group". It is the chemical structure that makes an alcohol an alcohol, whether it is the kind that gets you drunk, the kind that poisons you, or the kind that makes food taste sweeter with fewer calories.

So to answer your question, yes and no. The above poster was right that it's a certain type of alcohol that gets you drunk. There is alcohol in sugar alcohol, but good luck trying to get a buzz off of it (although depending on the type, you might get a good case of the runs from overconsumption). :)
