every one is right!. the term proof comes from the pioneer way to judge alcohol content!. when doused with the alcohol, gun powder will burn(and burn blue) if the content is 50% alcohol(100 proof) this is the "proof" of booze!. and yes , proof is twice the amount of alcohol content!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
When liquor is 100 proof it will burn!. That's 50% alcohol!. So overproof alcohol has more than 50% alcohol, and say 40 proof will contain 20% alcohol!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
