Why does my coffee cup smell like alcohol?!

Question:

Why does my coffee cup smell like alcohol?

I had a cup from Starbucks, which contained a "dulce de leche", that was sitting on my desk for 5 days. I had forgotten about it until I smelled something like alcohol coming from it. Can someone explain what happened?

Answers:
See! coffee with "dulce de leche" has "[very] sweet milk.... do to the 5 days left at room temperature, it had enough time to ferment and produce alcohol as a natural process.

This happens many times with many drinks, such a as natural juices with no preservatives.

Nevertheless, when your coffee is only a couple of hours old, but maybe a bit worm, you might have a very slight false-alcohol smell. why? some acids present in coffee can be appreciated after its at room temperature [but hasn't fermented]
