How to taste whiskey?!

Question:

How to taste whiskey?

Answers:
First of all, use a proper whisky glass. The glass should be tulip shaped so that it is narrower at the top to prevent aromatics from escaping too easily. Take in the nose of the whisky before tasting. Swirl the glass to release more of the vapours. Then take a small sip to savour the flavour on the palette. Most whiskies are watered down already (between 40% and 46% alcohol) but you may still want to add water. Do this sparingly until you find a balance that suits your taste. If you are drinking a cask strength whisky (alcohol content in the 50's or 60's) then it is possible that you will want to add some water. Be careful because if you add too much water then you will only drown the whisky.

Things to avoid. Never have whisky with ice. The ice only chills the whisky and prevents the flavours from being released. Never add anything but water sparingly. If you have bought a good whisky then you have wasted your money if you add anything to it. You would be as well buying a cheap blend.

I hope this is helpful and that you enjoy your whisky. Single malts are the ones you should try.

just tray to feel the alcohol
