Do you let your children have a small glass of wine with their meal?!

Question:

Do you let your children have a small glass of wine with their meal?

Answers:
In France, kids drink wine from about age 10 onwards. In this country we have a higher binge drinking culture because we deny our kids alcohol. I think banning parents from giving their kids a drink is more nanny state nonsense. I always had a small martini on new year's eve and I grew up to be a very responsible drinker.

hell no! they are 4-yrs-old!

no she is only a 1year and 1/2

No because they are young but I think it is OK from about 14 onwards.

But they probably won't want it because it is only cool at that age to do things you're not supposed to do. I spent many an hour in the local pub at 14 having escaped from school! And I couldn't drink wine, the taste was too strong, and alcopops hadn't been invented so for us it was sweet cider and Cinzano!

When they were younger, No. But I always allowed them a small glass of lager, as it wasn't as strong as wine.

Definitely no.

Nope! I can't even handle wine never mind a child!

It depends on how old they are (and mature.) I think some watered-down red wine wouldn't hurt if they were like 10. But any younger than that and I'd have to say no.

No he is 1 yr 2 months. It is different in every culture when kids start drinking though. I live in Japan and they start at a young age. I am from the US and I wasn't allowed till I was 15 with my parents of course.

yes i let my children have a Sm class of wine with lemonade on special occasions

I don't have children but I hear they allow it in Europe just a small glass and I was told that it is watered down at times. I don't know if I would follow the custom but I can understand since it has been scientifically proven that small amounts of wine can be used for medicinal purposes. The mindset also has to be taken into consideration. Here in america we are known for excess. Of course no responsible parent on the face of the earth would knowingly give something to their child to harm them. It's just a different way of thinking....not wrong....just different.

No, why would you want to give kids booze.

Sure do, they are 43, 37, and 34.

when i was about 5, my grandmother on my dads side who was 100 percent italian, but grew up in the bronx, new york, used to give me and my sister a very small glass of red wine with our spaghetti and meatballs on sunday. we only had a very small amount, if i got drunk i wouldnt remember anyway, but it was a really small amount anyway, and we couldnt ask for more wine anyway.

From about the age of 10 we offered our kids a taste of wine when we had some with a meal. They hated it! But now, at 17 and 19 they're responsible and have a "take-it-or-leave-it" attitude to drink.
My son (19) said the other day, that he and his bunch of mates are just as happy with a night in with the PS2 and endless mugs of tea, as with a night out on the town drinking!! And it's cheaper!

Honestly I don't think most kids would like red wine.. My mom let me try some on New Years Eve when I was like 7 or 8 and I thought it was horrible.

no no no they are children and any responsible adult knows you dont give children booze thats just dumb. children have organs that are still developing ie liver kiddneys and brains booze will rot them prematurely. NEVER GIVE BOOZE TO CHILDREN THATS DUMB

I really don't think it's a good idea at all. For so many reasons, it's a bad idea, even if you think it's harmless. Illegal, could start a cycle of them liking wine and becoming drunks at a young age, etc etc. Seriously, don't do it.

Sometimes they get a sip or two but I don't let them have more than that.

My children grew up overseas where there wasn't the hangup about alcohol, and didn't come to any harm, and my grandson has 40/60 wine and water when he has Sunday lunch with us. I can't see a problem.

Yes, my mum and dad let me have a small glass of wine on a Sunday with my Tea but it was watered down........ However i would not advise this coz im now a wino LOL no seriously i dont see the problem, it lets them feel a bit more grown up.

no way she is only two but mabey when shes 15 i will let her.

Depending on the age. From about 10ish we were allowed a small bit of wine mixed with lemonade.
