A lot of the aversion that a seasoned drinker may feel towards drinking hard alcohol (that gag reflex after taking a shot, or even from smelling a particular kind of liquor) is due to previous bad experiences that he or she has learned to associate with that liquor!. For example, the first time I ever had tequila, I was downing the shots like a pro!. Since the shots didn't seem to bother me, I took more shots than I should have and ended up getting really sick!. Ever since then, even the smell of tequila makes me nauseous!. You seem to be able to handle the drinking part well, probably better than most "new" drinkers, however the drunk part can still hit you pretty hard!. So, as easy as the alcohol goes down, you should still be wary of how much of it you drink!. Drinking should be a fun activity (in moderation, of course!.!.!.), and you don't want to get sick and wind up with any bad associations with alcohol!. Long story short, it shouldn't have anything to do with the fact that you're new to drinking!. You may even get better at chugging beer with more practice, which can come in handy when you play one of the myriad of drinking games that exist!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Everyone's body is different but what happens with the body is something that we develop called tolerance!. For example, say it takes 2 beers to get you drunk them next year it will take you 5 beers to get you drunk!. The body can take more every time because it has learn how to handle the amount you started with and it needs more to have the same reaction them before!. Since its been a long time since you have drink then it could also be the same and your tolerance has reduce!. Its also like when you exercise first you could only lift 10lbs then next month you could lift 30lbs, But it all depends on how your body respond!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It sounds like your bf is making up excuses for cringing so he can still look manly about it!. It really depends on the person and what they drink!. If you don't like how something tastes!.smells, then you generally cringe when you drink or eat it!. This is the same with alcohol!. It can also be associative, as monkeytail21 put it, and that you link a bad experience with the taste or smell of the stimulant (see Pavlov's Dog theory for more info on it!. The short of it, Pavlov trained a dog to start salivating when hearing a bell ring by using a steak as a stimulus!. So, every time the dog heard a bell he would think 'steak!.' A more down at home example would be school bells in h/s and before!. You hear a bell and automatically get up to leave class, same principle)!. As for chugging, that comes with practice!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

No, it has nothing to do with how long you've been drinking!. You can just handle it better!. Some people can handle it better than others, no matter how long they've been drinking!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
