Party food/bbq?!

Question:

Party food/bbq?

I am having a bbq / birthday party depending on weather when its my daughters 1st birthday and would like ideas for food. Has anyone got any good ideas?

If you've got lots of people coming round you will want to keep this as simple as possible. You also need food that can be cooked on a BBQ or inside in case the weather is bad. How about the classic burgers (have cheese, buns and salad for people to add), sausages/hot dogs with buns too. You could also do fish - perhaps tuna steaks or sardines. Chicken drumsticks always seem to go down well too - just make sure they're cooked properly! Do various salads - a green one - perhaps coleslaw - potato salad and a pasta salad and perhaps a rice one? Have cheese and bread available too and perhaps some dips and breadsticks and/or crudities. Good luck - I hope the weather stays good so you can BBQ and be outside.

tuna steak!

potato salad

Mexican Dip

take a can of bean dip and spread onto a cookie sheet or serving tray
sprinkle a taco seasoning on top
then layer shredded cheese
black olives
green onions
and some people add sour creme and tomato

Place on a table with corn chips and it will be gone in no time. Plus it's cheap and easy to make.

For kids I would go with hot dogs. For adults how about kabobs!

Easy to pre-make then throw on the grill

ribs

i did this for my daughters first and second b'days.

i tried to keep it simple, providing burgers and sausages and buns for the grown ups and finger sandwiches (ham and dairylea), biscuits, wotsits etc for the little one (of course they could have burgers too!) i provided soft drinks and told anyone if they wanted alcohol to bring their own (as it was more for family and friends than lots of kids).

and of course a nice big birthday cake!

i'll be doing the same again this year for her third birthday too seeing as they've been such a success so far!

This site has some good, simple BBQ recipes, it even has video guides for some recipes....

* snack mix
* critter crunch
* carrots (baby) with ranch dressing
* cheese - cheese cubes and especially string cheese
* chow mein noodles
* cinnamon buns
* cookies
* crackers
* crescent rolls - jam, cheese, chocolate in side for special treat
* finger sandwiches (make sandwich with peanut butter or cheese spreads, trim crusts and cut into 4 squares or triangles)
* fortune cookies
* floats - ice-cream with root beer, cola or orange soda (buy straws)
* french fries
* fruit - grapes, strawberries, kabobs, raisins
* fruit leathers/roll-ups
* goldfish crackers
* green beans
* hummus (garbanzo bean dip) with pita bread
* ice-cream - cones, sundaes (syrup, whip cream, cherries, sprinkles, candy pieces) - buy little prepackaged ice-cream cups or ice-cream bars or sandwiches if you want to avoid the mess of scooping out ice-cream
* juice - freeze bright juice in ice cube trays and serve with clear soda or juice. If you're concerned about spills, buy light colored drinks (apple juice or lemon lime soda. Fill cups half full for younger children.
* macaroni & cheese
* nachos
* nuts
* olives
* pancakes
* pasta - spaghetti and other fun shaped pastas (bow ties, bunnies, etc.) - caution some kids don't like tomato sauce, so have butter and cheese as an option
* peanuts
* peas
* pizza - pita, English muffin, if ordering from pizza parlor, order largest size you can use (best value) and ask them to cut it "party style" (small diamonds or squares) to avoid slices that are too big and hard to handle
* popcorn - Jiffy Pop is especially fun or a topping buffet with taco seasoning, Parmesan cheese, Italian herbs, and cinnamon sugar
* popsicles
* potatoes - baked, mashed
* pretzels - home baked
* sandwiches - open face, peanut butter, cream cheese, shaped, rolled
* sherbet - some kids just love this stuff, especially the rainbow kind, make float with clear soda
* tater tots

finger foods will be ideal. What about some carrot slices, cheese slices, cucumber slices with humous dip. Some potato chips.

Pineapple Cream Cheese Fluff
? 1 8 oz package cream cheese, slightly softened
? 1 can crushed pineapple, do not drain
? 1 large package instant vanilla pudding
? 1 12 oz bin of CoolWhip

Place cream cheese in medium sized bowl and mush into chunks with fork. Mix in crushed pineapple - with the juice. Add the pudding and mix together and then fold in the CoolWhip. Pour into a serving bowl and refrigerate. May also add drained mandarin oranges.

Keep it as simple as possible and try to get as much done ahead of time as you can. This way you wont be too busy doing all kinds of things rather than enjoying your daughters very first birthday! Hamburgers and hot dogs, chips and dips, some kind of salad like either a pasta, potato, or traditional, and maybe some fruit. Oh, and of course a cake or even cupcakes! Save the fancy stuff for another time and be sure to soak up every seccond of your daughter on her special day...they grow up too fast!
