I'm having a Sweet Sixteen...And well I wanted some cheap but good ideas on what to serve at it. I don't have like a ton of money to spend. I was thinking maybe chips and snack mixes...but there has to be more than that for the fact its an 6 hour party...and there is going to be dancing so i know people are going to be hungry.....PLEASE HELP!!!!

Answers:
You can always have finger sandwiches with chicken salad, tuna salad, pimento cheese, or just ham and cheese. These items you can find pretty cheap at a discount grocery store. Also chips and dips aren't a bad idea. And even get some baby carrots for the health conscious guests. And if you serve food they are going to get thirsty.....Sam's choice soft drink and Sam's bottled water for the health conscious are good ideas. Celery with pnutbutter or even pimento cheese is another idea. And these things are economical as far as price goes. Just a few ideas off the top of my head have a great party!

mexican food....easy to make, cheap, and hella good

fun finger sandwiches like PB &J, tuna, or even cucumber

frozen pizza is always cheaper than delivery

veggies and dip are easy when you use in-season veggies like carrots, celery, cucumber, broccoli, etc.

pigs in a blanket (hot dogs in croissant).

sprite mixed with kool-aid. Add some sherbet to keep it cool and creamy

Would the guests consider each making a covered dish? How about pizzas if not.

Chilli Buns. . Tacos. . Hot Dogs. . . Pizza. . .

Pasta and anti-pasta salad.

You can buy "family size" boxes/bags of pasta and pasta sauce and feed up to 20 people. The Anti-pasta salad is a little more involved and tad more expensive but good. Buy large packs of ham, salami, peperoni, provolone, some tomatoes, red onions (optional), olives, 2 heads of lettuce and Italian dressing. On a large tray lay down a layer of shredded lettuce, then make a nice looking arrangement of the meats cheeses and veggies, not to much because your are going to make several layers, 3-4. Repeat until all of the meat and stuff is on the plate. Cover the whole thing with the Italian dressing and let set for about an hour in the fridge before you serve.
The whole thing should cost no more than $30.

Make cheese ball with crackers. The will last a long time and are good snack food. Make ham and chicken salad and serve with crackers around bowls with the salad in them. Have your chip and dip, and snack mixes. Sounds like a party to me. Say that it is a make your own canape buffet.
You should be able to do the above for 2-3 dollars pe person is you make the stuff yourself.
In catering you plan on 6 pieces of canapes for the first 1/2 hour and 2 pieces per 45 minutes there after. You need to have a beverage. Make a punch and use off brand cheap lemon-lime soda as the sweet carbonation.

okay buy 6 round dip loaves from bakerythey are all ready cooked/cut centre out and fill with dip]people break off a piece and dip and eat it]these will last the party[bring out two say every hour and half]also buy 4 kg of cheerios[heat a kg in microwave for a few seconds or until hot[not burst]and place in a nice bowl and have tomato sauce in smaller bowl[do this on and off thru out the party]buy bunch of celery and peel and cut up in nice long[say four inches] pieces, also carrot,[same way]place a nice onion dip in centre and put celery and carrot pieces around it.[not a party with out some healthy food]you can top these up every so often.also get mum to make a few dozen scones[only flour/milk/margarine very cheap to make tastes a million bucks]buy tin of plum jam to go on them.[no cream]also buy some bulk packets of corn chips/popcorn/cheezels/lollies... put around.have funand happy birthday.

I Think Little Orders Like Prtzels, Cracker CHesse ECT.

how about serving a meal? a pasta dish or chili would be fairly cheap to make and i am sure that most of the ingredients would be in the house already. you could make it ahead of time and freeze it and then the day of your party throw it into a crockpot and let it cook all day. then offer up the usual snacks like chips and stuff every couple of hours, but not until after dinner.

potato skins...........cheap and deliscious
taquitos....
wings...
you could make fruit and or veggie skewers and have dip ( just get sour cream and dip mix cheap and easy
and for the fruit the dip can be yoghurt

pizza/chicken
have LOTS of chips and snacks
candies, chocolate
lots and lots

I like Me's idea. Mexican is cheap and easy - you know, tacos and corn chips with salsa. It will fill everyone up. If you don't like that - why not go for "sweet sixteen sweets" and have all delicious desserts - little pies, cookies, ice-cream with cones, Maybe some chicken (you can buy bulk cheap pieces at the supermarket) with sweet honey soy seasoning cooked on the barbeque.

get the parents involved and turn it into a bbq then let the kids to their own thing on the side. request everyone to bring side dishes and maybe just provide the meat. smart n final or sams's club is a good place to buy everything in bulk including meat.

For a 6 hour party, you need to serve something substantial. Snack food wont cut it. How about baked ziti?
