Sugar is in all of them except Rye whiskey hence diabetics not allowed to drink!.Kinds of Distilled Alcoholic Beverages :

I'd think the base spirits are:

Whiskey or Whisky which is made from grain!. Scotch Whisky from Scotland, Irish Whisky, Canadian Whiskey, and Kentucky Bourbon are the two top regional varieties!.

Rum is made from molasses primarily in the Caribbean and South America; Puerto Rica and Cuba are large producers, although I can't comment on the relative quality!.

Vodka can be made from anything and a lot is made in the US and then shipped to other countries for final processing!.

Tequila is made from Blue Agave in Mexico!.

Brandy is basically distilled wine, and the best Brandies are made in the cognac region of France!.

Gin is basically vodka flavored with botanicals, including juniper berries!. England makes good Gin!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Origins of each
Whiskey (first recorded in Ireland)
Gin (Netherlands)
Vodka (Eastern European, first documented in Poland)
Ouzo (process to make it came from Egypt)
Rum (Malaysia)
Brandy (Ancient Greece/Rome)

Whiskey is made from fermented grain mash!. The best ones are from Ireland, the best ones in my opinion, being Tullamore Dew or Midleton!. As to why the Irish spell whiskey with an e, its because the Scottish were once flooding the market with cheap whisky, so the Irish and American makers added an e, to distinguish their whisky as a much better product (which it is)!.

Gin is made from juniper berries!. British gin is the most popular, and is quite good, especially Gordon's!. My favourite comes from New Zealand, and is called South Gin!.

Vodka is made from water and ethanol, distilled with potatoes, grain or sugar beet molasses!. Russian vodka is thebest, but Swedish is also good!. I like Stolichnaya the most, but Absolut is pretty good too!.

Ouzo is alcohol, diluted with water with anise and other herbs added to it!. Greece is the only country that can actually call it Ouzo, because of the EU, so technically it has to be the best country (which it is)!. The best ouzo is Ouzo Babatzim!.

Rum is made from sugarcane!. The best ones come from the Caribbean and Cuba!. I think the best one is Angostura!. Avoid rum from Australia, since it is bloody terrible!.

Brandy is made from grapes!. The best ones are from the Cognac region in France, but ones made in Spain (called sherry) are good too!. My favourite brandy is Martell (a cognac)!.

Tequila is not a base spirit, it is based on mezcal (the drink with the worm in it, they legally can't put worms in tequila)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Scotch Whiskey ( Scotland )
Gin
Vodka (Russian)
Rum
Brandy ( definitely French is best)
And I think Ouzo (Greek)

Anyway rum is from sugar, gin from juniper berries, Vodka was distilled from potatoes originally (but I I'm not sure now)
Brandy is from grapes and wine!.
really the rest can be googledWww@FoodAQ@Com

Best whisky comes from Scotland, second best whiskey is from Ireland!.
Note the different spelling - Irish is spelt with an "e" Scotch is without the "e"!. Good quiz question!Www@FoodAQ@Com
