What's the correct amount/size of wedding cake to order to 50 guests?
Answers:
Usually when ordering a cake from a bakery or a store who does wedding cakes they go by slices. So if you have 50 guests, you tell them 50 slices. They will know what size to make from there. They will then give you options to choose from for styles and such. Be sure to shop around on the prices though - they will try to rob you blind if you let them. Each place charges whatever they feel like it because they know you will pay it due to it being a special event. An average price for cake should run from $2.00-$3.50. I would NOT pay more than $3.50!! In fact, in 1998 when I got married, I had a person who made them out of her home and she only charged $1.00 a slice and I had a 250 piece cake (much bigger than your wedding party) so be sure to check that route too if you can.
Well, there are many factors to determine this!
What time is the wedding?
What food is being served-like a meal or snacky stuff?
Is there alcohol being served?
Are you having a groom's cake?
Are the marjority of guests children or adults?
Are there other sweet items being served?
Is it a sit down meal? Will the cake be passed out to guests or sitting on the table for guests to come pick up?
Any good bakery, that is experienced with weddings, will want to know these things before advising you on a size of a cake. They all factor into it! If you are having a sit down meal or if you are having other sweet things or if you are having a groom's cake, generally you don't plan for all 50 people to eat the bride's cake! Also, alcohol cuts down on the number of people who eat cake!
You should be able to tell your baker this info, and they should be able to reccomend a size to you! Odds are, they have been doing this forever, so they will know! And as a back up and cost cutting option, you can have a back up sheet cake in the kitchen and if the cake begins to run low, slice up the sheet cake and bring it out for guests! A sheet cake can cost like $20.00 in comparision to an extra $100.00 for another cake layer!
I would say that if the cake will be there for guests to pick up and not a passed out thing, I would plan for 45 people to eat cake! Especially if you are having a grooms cake! But if you get a sheet cake, you could have a wedding cake for 25 and a sheet cake in the back!
Good luck and congrats!
5 pound is the best i think
You're talking about two tiers here. The bottom tier should cover 50 people easily and the top tier can be frozen for your first year anniversary. Another thought is to create individual wedding cakes for each guess. These are slightly larger than a cup cake, but decorated more elaborately.
You don't need to know what size wedding cake to order. You just tell the baker how many people you need for the cake to feed and how you want it decorated. If you've seen a cake you like take the picture with you. Your baker can scale it down, or up, to fit your needs.
Your baker will be able to give you the best estimate based upon the type of cake.
