Anyone use Mr. Beer? How does it breath?!

Question: Anyone use Mr!. Beer!? How does it breath!?
I don't see any kind of air lock on the Mr beer Keg, how does it let gas out during the fermentation,

I used to brew beer with an uncle using the full set up, but he lives in another state, so I am just gonna buy minimal equipment for making small batches,

I also plan on making my own wort and buying quality yeast, not using one of the premade kits!.

Anyone know how it breathes!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
The lid on the Mr!. Beer kegs has a pair of small bumps on it, on opposite sides of the sealing surface!. This is to prevent an actually seal to be formed and allows for CO2 to escape, however, it also allows for oxygen to get back in!. This is the same design used on those clear plastic, reusable water jugs made to fit on a refrigerator shelf, which are just basically clear, rectangular Mr!. Beer fermenters!.

I agree with Alesmith, get a carboy or a brew bucket!. Find a good homebrew shop and use their kits/ingredients/equipment to start out with!. You'll save more money than using the Mr!. Beer!.

Midwest Brewing Supplies (http://www!.midwestsupplies!.com) has good ingredient (extract and allgrain) and equipment kits!. You also get a free How To Brew dvd when you order a kit!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The Mr!. Beer claims a lot of things, I'm sure its airlock design works but I'll personally stick to more traditional locks!.

I would advise against the Mr!. Beer!. It will work for your purposes but if you ever choose to upgrade then nothing that comes with a Mr!. Beer can really be recycled to a more advanced set up!.

Instead of a Mr!. Beer kit I would personally recommend you simply get a small carboy or jug and then some basic equipment!. A 3 gallon glass carboy is only $20 and that's really all you'd need aside from a brew pot which you probably already have in some resepect!.

There's also pretty clever ways to make small batch mash tuns for doing 1-3 gallon all-grain batches!.

Just some things to chew on!.!.!. Good luck with the brewing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i never got a really good batch from using a mr!. beer!. no matter how much i cleaned it it always seemed to have an olive like taste, which could have been from a leaky seal!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
