What's a good meat entree for a picnic party?!

Question:

What's a good meat entree for a picnic party?

I'm planning on potato salad, pasta salad, fruit salad but I can't come up with an entree. What meat dish, either hot or cold, will feed a crowd and not cost a fortune?

Answers:
Make it a pig pickin' Or pig roast.. barbeque pork.. cook it until it will shred.. have more BB Que sauce available and coleslaw for those that want a true southern pork barbeque sandwich... be above the norm on this

Good Luck

Fried chicken is always a good one for a large crowd. You can buy it at a grocery store, fully cooked for less than 50 cents per piece. We have a local store that charges $29.99 for 100 pieces, can get much cheaper than that and it is good stuff.

Anything from Buddig meats.

Hamburgers are usually pretty cheap as far as meats go. Other possibilities could be chicken salad sandwiches on croissants (use canned chicken or a prepared chicken salad and put it on croissants you can buy at walmart). Or check out a local bbq place and see if you can get chopped brisket for a reasonable price to make into bbq sandwiches.

southern fried buttermilk wingettes (chicken) or chicken legs with some coleslaw or potatoe, macoroni, cornbread cupcakes....serve with some white wine......

kabobs are yummy and easy

You know all the standbys already, the standard picnic food.

Try a spiral ham for a change, cold ham is great.

I would do hamburgers! Inexpensive...easy to jazz up with some cheese, or tomato or avocado or cheese or whatevs! REally tasty!

either bbq pulled pork sandwiches or bbq pulled chicken sandwiches. yum!

chicken wings, little smokeys in bbq sauce, shredded pork roast.

Fresh brats-
Marinade in 2 bottles of red beer
On stovetop cook for 20 minutes
On grill for browning up & grill marks
Serve with spicy dijon and good brat buns

Sausage Rolls.
Flaky or Short Pastry.
450 g tube of Sausage Meat.
Diced Onion.
Mix sausage meat and onion with about ? cup of water.

Take one sheet of pastry and lay on the filling in the centre third.
Fold one side over and brush the other with water and press on top.
Turn over and cut into rolls 3’’ long or cut into 3 or 4.
Make 3 cuts on top of each roll and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
Brush with milk and bake about 30 minutes at 215C (425F), in a pre-heated oven.

Do like cold cut sandwiches, and have a variety of different meats.. ham, turkey, etc..

How many guests?

OK. Processed meats - deli meats etc. are the cheapest. A good deli tray from the market will set you back $25-50 depending on how many guests. Ask your deli manager for a ballpark price. Needs to be kept and served cold tho.

Hot dogs and burgers are also pretty reasonable. You can buy pre-formed burgers 24/box in the freezer section. Dogs are 8/pkg in the deli-meat section. Buns are cheap enough - about $1.50/8 in the bread section.

Grilled chicken breasts (from Costco or Sam's) cooked on the barbie are tasty but they're a bit more expensive too.

Anything fish will be more costly still.

Consider the first two suggestions.

hot dogs and or hamburgers

I would suggest BBQ Pork or Sloppy Joes. Both can be kept in a crock pot and usually go over pretty well.

1-canned salmon mixed with ranch dressing, on a bed of baby spinach on flaxseed bread

2-turkey breast lunch meat (regular, not smoked) with slices of avocado and white onions and soy mayonnasie on flaxseed bread

cut sandwiches into 4 squares...

3-Finger foods:
-sliced hard boiled eggs
-cherry tomatoes
-baby carrots
-sliced cucumbers
-sliced radishes

4-fresh lemonade..., or iced tea

5-dessert....watermelon chunks, apples slices and caramel dip
