What about having a Hawaiin Luau type theme? There is so much that can be done to accomodate this theme, from hula music, to grass skirts... pineapples... coconuts, etc. You could serve mock pina coladas and have the guests make their own kebabs to grill. Or if you didnt want to cook, just have cut up chunks of pre-cooked ham and/or chicken and lots of nice chunks of veggies that the guests can skewer themselves and eat. :)
You can find loads of decorations at your local dollar stores. Everything from grass skirts, to cheap tiki lights/torches, cocktail umbrellas for drinks, and plastic flower leis/garlands. This kind of party would be fun for any age, but pre-teens/teens would love this sort of thing.
My 14 yr old neice did this and everyone absolutely LOVED it. It was so much fun decorating and the food and music just put everything over the top. It was awesome. :)
Here is a recipe for a non-alcoholic Pina Colada:
1 cup ice
1 1/4 cups pineapple juice
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons white sugar
In an electric blender, blend ice, pineapple juice, milk, cream, and sugar. Blend until smooth.
some good food for a party would be something like pizza and chips, some little things you can munch on.

or maybe you guys could go out somewhere like movies or bowling or something like that.

Ice-Cream Party Theme-cute quick idea for anybody probably ages 10-teen The night before you are hosting your party go to the supermarket and buy a bunch of icecream and a bunch of toppings.INVITATIONS- Anything colorful and creative:You probably want to involve something with icecream on the invite. If the kids are younger you might want to tell them to bring old clothing. Before the party fill a spacious room with 2-3 tables and you put disposable table cloths onto each table.Depending on how many kids there are that is how many tables you will need. On each table put any size pan but all the pans should be the same size. On each table put 2-3 tubs of any flavor ice cream the kids enjoy. Put the same amount and the same kinds of icecream toppings on the table and appliances (like spoons plastic or not)When the kids arrive (at about five) dont let them in that particular room yet because you will want to keep it a surprise for the other kids or your kid if it is a surprise. Have everyone gather into a different room than the one with the tables and just let them hang out . After that if you have a pool let them swim for about an hour.(until 6:20) and then have them come in for dinner (pizza or anything you want it depends on how everyone likes food or what kinds of food they like)After dinner it will probably be about 6:45-6:50 and gather the kids into the room with the tables and split them into 2-3 teams depending on how many kids are coming. Dance party theme-geta disco ball and hang Christmas lights all around the room of the party put like 5 lava lamps around the room. Because this is going to be the dance/karaoke room hang a velvet red curtain with gold ties .serve party pizza and have a nacho bar. At the nacho bar hv everything that you could imagine to put on your nachos (different kinds of nachos, different cheeses, both melted and not, letuce,meat,a large assortment of sauces exc.)
