Beer suggestions...?!

Question: Beer suggestions!.!.!.!?
I live in San Diego, and have been to most of the local breweries!. We have a local liquor store that carries somewhere around 50 different breweries!. My problem is there are so many to pick from and the place is under new management, That knows very little about beer!. So my question is what would you recommend for tasting!? I typically drink IPA's, IRS's, Barley wines, Double IPA's, Belgian and I have recently gained an appreciation for Saisons!. Thanks in advanceWww@FoodAQ@Com

EDIT:

They age extremely well!. In fact DFH has started putting aging suggestions on the bottles for some of there more!.!.!. "extreme" beers!.

Vanilla, real beer (in moderation admittedly) is extremely good for you health!.

High in vitamin B
High in simple antioxidants (Easier for you body to break down and use!.)
Powerful natural antibiotic
High in Iron (Stouts and Porter mostly)
High in fiber (wheat ale mostly)
Proven Cancer fighter (2005 Japanese study)
Great source for a portion of your daily water supply (low ABV beer that is)
Great for your cardiovascular system which can prevent heart attacks and strokes!.
Stouts contain Lactic Acid
Hoppy beer has been linked to stimulation of certain brain cells, resulting in improved short-term memory
Malty beers are good for the complexion and the hair!.
And finally, the natural oils in the hops are good for your complexion!.

EDIT 2: The Olde School is probably the best Barleywine I've ever had!. It also has "Walk hand-in-neck with bottle into the middle of the woods!. Use shovel to dig 2x2 hole three feet deep!. Seal bottle in plastic bag!. Place in hole and pack with dirt!. Memorize location and leave!. Return exactly one year later!. Dig up bottle, open and enjoy!." written on the bottle!.!.!.

EDIT 3 Sorry about all the edits:

An email I just recieved from Vanilla:

" I don't drink at all !. Beer smells bad and I am sure it tastes bad!. There are lots of foods out there that has just as many vitamins and minerals in them!. Beer is just plain bad!. I imagine that you do not drink it for your health!. You probably drink it for enjoyment and hanging out with your buddies!. So sad!."

My response:

"I drink it for the same reason I eat fine food!.!.!. I enjoy the taste and the adventure or discovering new flavors!.!.!. So sad that you feel the need to judge someone based on what they do or don't consume!. For the record I have no problem with non-drinkers!.!.!. many of my friends are!. I do have a problem with people who cast judgement on others without first gaining information on them!. And for the record!.!.!. Your "so sad" comment gave me all the information that I needed!.

MAW"

My suggestion is don't drink it !. It is bad for your health!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Juan,

I'm in San Diego once a year for the big Comic-Con - have you been to the Yard House!? They have a LOT of beers on tap, maybe the biggest selection I've ever seen!. Stone Smoked Porter goes REALLY well with their Bacon BBQ Cheeseburger!.!.!.

You might consider going to the Yard House and drinking a flight, sampling 6 small beers at a time!. Then you can find out which ones you like, and then pick those up at the liquor store!.

I also like going to the Karl Strauss brew pub!. Great stuff!. Haven't visited any of the local breweries because I never have that kind of time!.

Me, I'm a big fan of the darker + stronger beers - stouts, porters and barleywines!. All barleywines age well, it's one of the few types of beer that get better with age!. I agree with you, never had a taste for saisons either!.

How's your beer fridge working!? 52 degrees seems a little warm to me, mine's set at 41!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree that the 120 Minute IPA is phenomenal!. Will knock you on your *** for sure (20% abv)!. The 60 and 90 minute aren't too shabby either!.

They also make a beer called Raison D'Etre, which is an excellent Belgian influenced ale (sometimes they make a rockin' version of this beer called Raison D'Extra, which has 18% abv)!.

Old School Barleywine is another Dogfish Head beer you might like!. Really, most of their stuff is excellent!. I say try as much as you can!.

EDIT

Vanilla, I agree with these guys!. Plus, even if the only reason I drank beer was to hang out with my buddies, why is that a bad thing!? It's bad for me to enjoy spending time with my friends!? It's bad for me to have a social life!? Personally, I think it's more sad that you apparently don't have one!. Perhaps you're automatically assuming that all people who drink are binge drinking alcoholics, which is also not true!. Beer is not bad for you in moderation, and it enhances my life tremendously by bringing me happiness and enjoyment!. That's right, I said enjoyment!. And when I say that, I don't mean "getting drunk!." I mean that I enjoy all the subtle character and flavor differences that make each beer so unique (and I do it in a responsible way)!. That's right, people who drink alcohol are capable of doing so responsibly! Crazy, I know! Anyway, sorry for the rant everyone!.!.!. I just needed to defend what we do!. Good call, Mayor!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
