Decorations - Italian Dinner?!

Question:

Decorations - Italian Dinner?

Any suggestions for decorations for an italian themed dinner. It is for about 50 adults (all couples)

I am thinking of paper table clothes with crayons to write on (like in some italian restaurants), different colored/shaped pasta in bowls/vases as centerpieces... any other suggestions?

It needs to be effective and able to be replicated for each of the 7 round tables.

Also ideas for favors/fun other decorations would be great!

Thank you!

Answers:
Cover each table with white cloths. In the center of each table place a potted plant, maybe an herb like basil so it will smell awesome, a basket of breads and grassinni, a bottle of wine and/or herb infused olive oil and 3-5 small candles. Do something slightly more grandious on a buffet table if there is one, and add large flowers.

Play some low key music in italian like Andrea Bocelli or even opera if you think your guests would like it.

go to olive garden

strings of garlic, wine bottles, bottles of olive oil, italian pottery, flowers, don't forget the italian music!

The pasta centerpieces sounds like a decent idea, but the paper tablecloths sounds tacky. What about red checked tablecloths? Or you can forget the whole Italian restaurant theme and do something more Tuscan inspired or even Renaissance. You could do a Leonardo Da Vinci theme, that could really be unique. Or a Mona Lisa.

get italian table cloths and more things of that

Italians love the vino! Decorate with empty or full wine bottles.
Checked table cloths are also very Italian.
Play some Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra too.

red and green and white. Italian colors and play some Dean Martin music.

A good idea would be to string lights around the top of the room. The tiny clear Christmas lights.Outdoor cafes in Italy use them and I noticed Olive Gardens in the US have them in some of their restaurants. You could run them in strips from one end of the room to the other.Crepe paper streamers in green, red and white could be used on the sides or somewhere. If you use the strung lights and have candles on the tables, you could reproduce an outdoor cafe look.As for centerpieces, try incorporating some food.Have a big beautiful anti-pasta plate at each table.Foods that can be placed at least an hour ahead and be good.Escarole base on the plates or hearty greens.Arrange assorted olives, pieces of smoked meats like pepperoni, sardines, salami, marinated items(olives,mushrooms,pepper)... mozzerella, aged cheeses.Manga!
