Having a house party for a new house. What to serve?!

Question:

Having a house party for a new house. What to serve?

Answers:
finger food
an easy one is to get sheets of ready made puff pastry, cut them into little squares (I make each one into 16 squares), smear a little pesto in the middle, top with a slice of tomato and a sprinkle of fetta cheese, stick it in the oven until it looks cooked - golden and puffy. Best to arrange on greaased tray or baking paper before adding topping as they get a little hard to handle if you have to move them bafore they are cooked. Can precook and keep in the fridge and then just reheat before serving, or serve cold, still nice.

it's actually a weight watchers recipe (they use low fat fetta)

if it is a like a friends kinda come over party have a barbeque hotdogs or hamburgers but if it is like a reallly special one then have steak, spagetti and stuff like that

Is it formal or just an impromptu?

If it is formal, then a nice roast, with potato's, carrots, onions, maybe a salad, a soup....

If it is impromptu, then maybe deli, with some nice Italian bread, bruschetta (that's always a hit), if the weather is nice, a cookout, burgers, hot dogs, with all the fixings, maybe grill up some chicken, salmon is good on a grill also...

Its all up to your imagination...

Congratulations on your new home! Enjoy!

Shredded BBQ pork, yummy! A variety of fruits and vegetables with a dip, corn on the cob, macaroni salad, pasta salad???

In my part of the country people don't always stay along time. I found the best thing is to go to Sam's club and buy the pre made finger foods, fresh fruit and veggies, finger sandwiches and I hid the really dangerous sweets under a cake cover. (So many of my friends are trying to do low carb.)

OK, my name is Kita, and I'm here to help you. Well, 1st pick a theme. example: Birthday, Horror, India culture etc. Then example you chose India, probably tell them to wear India clothes. Next food! The best party food recommendation in my mind is "COOK YOURSELF!" It's a sign of your warm heart! (I bet your not a black hearted friend!) It's also a chance to show skills. More, Choose some games. Or blow your imagination - make up some unique games.
BEST PARTY GAME:
* Musical Chairs
*Pass the Parcel
*Cards
*Board games
*Musical statues
*Duck, duck, goose

I always find that serving lots of things that can sit at room temperature are great. They allow you to relax more and not have to constantly toil in the kitchen. For example, you could do a really attractive vegetable tray with nice dips and hummus, a gourmet cheese spread with lots of crackers and different types of mustards/jams, etc...and of course a fruit tray or fruit salad is always good. In addition to these, you could try some type of pasta salad that could be served either cold or at room temperature. Homemade salsa is always good, too. Or perhaps you could make a dish in a slow cooker so you can just have it sitting out and not have to worry about it?

Whether or not this is a new build home, an "under construction" party theme may be an option.

Build your own subs, (assorted breads, perhaps from your new local bakery, sliced meat tray from a local deli, and cheeses)

Build your own salad, (bowl of greens, relish tray of tomatoes and garden veggies, choice of dressings)

Build your own dessert, (vanilla ice cream cups and toppings)

Since your house is new, I'm sure you'd like to keep it looking that way. Having a lot of elaborate things at large parties can be complicated and messy. Keep things to portion controlled sizes. Stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta, things people can pick up and eat, rather than have to dig into or cut. Skewered cheeses with strawberries. A clean mirror dressed up greens makes a great presentation for a fruit and cheese assortment. Cupcakes, cookies. Make sure you have plenty of ice- no matter how much you get, you find it goes. You can get galvanized buckets at the hardware store to put beverages into. Don't bother with punch bowls, if people have to serve themselves there's a good chance a lot of it will wind up on the floor. Pre-open bottles of wine and soda so people don't have to wrestle with them. And most importantly try to do as much as you can ahead of time so you can just put it out and enjoy your party!

My favorite dip, its so easy. Get a 9x9 square pan first spread 8 ounces of cream cheese on the bottom, the cook a pound of ground beef and sprinkle that over the cream cheese. Then on top of that sprinkle about half a pack of el paso taco seasoning (or more or less depending on how hot you want it). Then cover that with a small bottle of salsa, then a package of shredded chedder or marble cheese. When you are getting ready to serve, toss it in the oven till the cheese is melted. Serve with scoop or restaurant style tortilla chips.

Rolls.

Take a slice of sandwich bread and spread it with butter or margarine.
With a corner of a square or rectangle of bread pointing toward you, place across bread corner to corner the filling and roll up.
Fillings to consider:
Shredded chicken with some s&p or mayo
Asparagus spears
Surimi, a few slim slices of lettuce and a seafood dressing.
Present with the open ends upper most so people will see the filling they want to eat.

Club Sandwiches
Take four slices of bread and spread them with butter or margarine.
On the first slice place ham and some mustard. (Optional)
Place the second slice of bread on top of Ham, and cover with mashed egg, seasoned with S&P.
Place the third slice of bread on top of egg, and cover with de seeded tomato, seasoned with S&P
Top with forth slice of bread, spread side down.
Cut crusts fro the sides and cut into fingers.

If possible get a loaf of caterers sliced bread.
It is cut lengthways, instead of across, so you can make several at a time.

Sausage Rolls.
Flaky or Short Pastry.
450 g tube of Sausage Meat.
Diced Onion.
Mix sausage meat and onion with about ? cup of water.

Take one sheet of pastry and lay on the filling in the centre third.
Fold one side over and brush the other with water and press on top.

Mexican food! It's inexpensive and I've never met anyone who doesn't like it. You can set up a taco "building" station in your new kitchen. You will only need a few ingredients: Ground beef and/or chicken, thinly sliced lettuce, chopped tomatoes, taco sauce, hard shell tortillas, soft tortillas, and yellow rice. Chips and salsa for appitizers.

I think finger foods are good thats what i did for mine unless you are doing something formal. Finger foods are good that way no one feels weird its just casual and hanging out and enjoying your new place.

Great appetiser, Salmon Moose

Can be made the day before and left in the fridge. Buy a can of salmon, drain and run your fingers through it to break up the lumps and take out the bones. Put that in a mixer with 2 packages of cream cheese. Add juice from 2 lemons, dill and salt and pepper to taste. Mix.. mix, mix. The more you mix, the more creamy it gets. Just put it on and let it run for about 10 minutes. Next take a bowl, any bowl, and line it with plastic wrap. Put the mixture into the bowl and pat down to get all of the air pockets out. Cover completely with wrap and leave it in the fridge until needed. When ready just take out of the fridge and uncover, place on a platter with crackers and your good to go.

things that don't stain easily. ;P

Have a few snacks like chips and stuff around. Then maybe some sausage rolls. For dinner, maybe make it as a pot luck as part of the house warming so everyone can contribute something. Try to find out who will bring what so there is not too much of one thing.
