Stupid beer question?!

Question: Stupid beer question!?
Why do bar tenders tip the cup while filling it up with beer!? Is it to keep it from foaming as little as possible!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Not stupid at all!. As a rule of thumb, bartenders figure that 20% of the glass should be head!. They start by pouring a short distance, to the side of the glass, to get the beer in, then pour into the vertical glass to create the head!. It's a visual thing rather than a matter of taste unless the beer is over- or under-carbonated!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

for the most part yes!. and if you do it correctly, you don't have it "gently pouring down the side of the glass" either!. just like soda, that "head" (foam) eventually settles and is just beer!.

but this depends on what kind of beer you're drinking!.

a domestic such as coors or bud, you want very little to no head!.

an import like a hefewiezen or something similar, you actually want a little head!.

with a stout, such as a guinness, you want quite a bit of head!. when properly served, a draft is served with a spoon that creates the proper amount of head!. when from a can or bottle, you just dump it right in!.

EDIT: oh look! those people who gave me a TD: http://www!.bellaonline!.com/articles/art5!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because otherwise the head of the beer would be too much so they tip the glass to make a smaller head!.!.!.!.!.I hate it when they only make a tiny head on the beer, that is why it is good in Europe they make a good proper head on the beerWww@FoodAQ@Com

To stop it from foaming too much!. You still get a head if the beer has enough proteins to hold a head but pouring it straight to the bottom would result in a glass of head with a few inches of beer at the bottom!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If the cup is straight and the beer is poured that way the foam seems to spurt out from the top so that why its you to tip your cup!. I always do that at restaurants if i don't my beer overflows!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

they already feel guilty for charging you 5$ for a beer they can at least give you the equivelant of what you'd get in a bottle - but yeah it's to control the foamWww@FoodAQ@Com

Yep! The beer gently runs down the side, rather then splashing and foaming at the bottom!.

It's great to have some head on a beer though!. Especially a Guinness!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

thats right! that wasnt a stupid question, no question about beer is stupid! lolWww@FoodAQ@Com

Yes it is to minimize the head on the beer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

that is exactly itWww@FoodAQ@Com
