Underage cooking wine?!

Question: Underage cooking wine!?
I am 20 years old and I love to cook for my husband!. Am I able to buy cooking wine in the supermarket!? I haven't tried yet because I don't want to buy alcohol "underage"!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I would suggest you have your husband buy you a bottle of regular wine for cooking!.

You can legally buy cooking wine!. To make cooking wine, they take a low quality wine and add enough salt to make it undrinkable!. The salt itself won't really affect the recipes, though, if you remember not to season whatever your cooking, and the recipe doesn't call for much wine!.

For quality, though, drinking wine is what you should use in cooking!. Honestly, I would substitute chicken stock for wine before using cooking wine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That's a good question! Up here in Canada (in my p[rovince) the age limit is 19, and I was living in university dorm, so didn't start with using cooking wines until after that, lol (no real kitchen set up in dorms lol)!.
I'm not sure how that would work, I'm sure you'd not be able to either, as there might be some wise *** who thinks he or she can get drunk off cooking wine- which he or she could, but it's not that tasty until it's been cooked (Iwhen all the alcohol is evaporated anyway lol)!. Is your hubby over 21!? Find someone to get you some and stock up -always good to have a good supply of these stapes in your pantry anwyay!. And make sure you get quality!. That will be noticeable in your end product!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with lunatic!. Whatever you are cooking will never be better than the quality of the ingredients that you use in it!. Use a wine in your recipe that you would enjoy drinking by itself!. I know that wasn't your question but I had to say it!.

Now to answer your question: no, the grocery store is not legally allowed to sell an underage person alcohol, even if it is for cooking!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You'll be fine!. Even if the store cards people for alcohol purchases, chances are they won't card you!. Especially if you look like you're over 21!.

Cooking wines, typically, don't have as much alcohol content in them!. They also don't taste very good, to drink them straight up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can buy cooking wine!. It's only like !.5% alcohol anyway!.
It tastes nasty though!. It's very salty!.

If there's any way you can get real wine, you should definitly try to!.
You can make good stuff with cooking wine, it just won't be as good as real wine!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For the love of God, do NOT use that "stuff" they sell in grocery stores under the name "cooking wine"!. It will ruin anything you are cooking!.

Find someone who is of age to buy you a real bottle or don't make that recipe!.

Trust me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Cooking wine that is sold in the supermarket, you can buy but it's loaded with salt, why waste you money!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

What are you cooking!?!?
any wine will work but dont use a white wine that is older than 4 years, White wines dont get better with age, I use a little Calloway in my beef Stroganoff!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
